Keloids-Hypertrophic Scars

Keloids and hypertrophic scars appear after damage has been caused to the deeper layers of the skin. The scar tissue that forms has significant differences in both quality and texture compared to the surrounding skin tissue. Keloids are created when the body produces too much collagen. Keloids are a type of raised scar that extends beyond the borders of the original wound. Unlike normal scars, which gradually fade over time, keloids can grow beyond the site of the original injury and often have a smooth, shiny appearance while usually darker than the surrounding skin.
